Traction When It Matters Most
Standard 4WDs use open differentials, which can let one wheel spin uselessly while the other does nothing. Diff lockers eliminate this issue by locking both wheels on an axle together, so you keep moving forward, even when one tyre loses contact or traction.
At Oceans Automotive, we install mechanical, air, and electronic lockers that suit the way you drive. Whether you’re heading across dunes, crawling through ruts, or want to make sure you can recover yourself in tough conditions, a locker is a proven, reliable upgrade.
The Process
Installing diff lockers is a precise job that requires mechanical expertise and the right tools. Here’s how we handle every locker install:

Initial Vehicle Assessment
We inspect your axle setup, driveline condition, and how your 4WD is used – touring, weekend wheeling, or worksite access – so we can recommend the right locker type for your needs.

Locker Type Recommendation
Based on your use case and budget, we’ll guide you toward the best solution – mechanical auto-lockers, air-actuated lockers, or electronic E-Lockers that activate with the push of a button.

Differential Inspection & Setup
We open the diff housing and inspect the gears, bearings, and housing condition. Any worn components are flagged before the new locker is installed.

Locker Installation
We fit the locker with the correct shimming and torque specs. Air or electronic systems are wired and plumbed cleanly through the cabin and engine bay.

Fluids, Seals & Testing
We reseal the diff, fill it with fresh fluid, and test the locker engagement to ensure smooth operation, both on the hoist and under load.

Final Drive Test & Sign-Off
Once installed, we road test and off-road test the locker for proper engagement, noise, and operation. You’ll get a full walkthrough on how to use it and when to activate it.
Available Locker Options
We can supply and fit a range of locker systems, including:
- Air Lockers (e.g. ARB)
- Electronic Lockers (E-Lockers)
- Automatic Lockers (e.g. Detroit/Spartan)
- Front, rear, or both axles

FAQs
Yes — 4WD helps, but without lockers, you can still lose traction if one wheel lifts or spins. Lockers ensure both wheels keep turning when it matters.
